What is RLD?

RLD is an award winning Reflexology technique which focuses on stimulating the lymphatic system reflexes on the feet. Unlike our cardiovascular system, our lymphatics rely solely on bodily movement for the fluid to move. It plays a key role in our body's immune system, so targeting the key areas of the feet corresponding to the lymphatics, while also focusing on the area of concern, is a very effective way of stimulating the body's own response to reduce swelling, clear out toxins and blockages and boost our ability to fight infection.

It is a unique sequence that has been researched and developed by Sally Kay BSc (Hons), whilst working in Cancer Care, and throughout her research she discovered that RLD had a significant effect on the reduction of swelling and the drainage of fluid with patients suffering with lymphoedema.

What is Lymphoedema?

Lymphoedema is a chronic condition that causes swelling in tissues in the body and usually affects the arm or leg, although it can develop in any part of the body. It is due to a failure in the lymphatic system where normal lymph drainage cannot occur.

Primary Lymphoedema is a genetic condition affecting the development of the lymphatic system and can develop at any age although usually starts in infancy, adolescence or early adulthood.

Secondary Lymphoedema is caused by damage to the lymphatic system / lymph nodes or problems with the drainage of fluid. It can be as a result of injury, infection, inflammation of the  limb, lack of limb movement or cancer surgery.

What can Reflexology Lymph Drainage help with?

RLD is not only for those going through cancer treatment or with swelling of the limbs, it is a therapy that is used to boost the lymphatic system. People who may feel sluggish, lethargic and find it difficult to get going in the morning can use RLD to help them feel more energised.

RLD is used similarly to MLD (Manual Lymph Drainage) and is proving to be effective in conditions such as:
